Move-in checklist

A free list for a Central Florida move-in. Realtors can print it or send the PDF. No email required.

Before move-in day

  • Confirm the closing time or the lease start, and the hour you receive keys.
  • Ask the building which hours a move is allowed, which door to use, and whether the elevator must be reserved.
  • Ask where a truck may park, and for how long.
  • Book the move inside that window. Crew hours are Sun–Fri · 7:00 AM – 7:00 PM; Sat · 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM.
  • Start or transfer electric, water, and internet for the day you get keys.
  • File a mail-forwarding change with USPS.
  • Measure the tightest doorway and the stair turn if a sofa or a mattress is coming.
  • Pack an open-first box: medication, chargers, toiletries, a change of clothes, basic tools, snacks, and paperwork.
  • Label boxes with the destination room.
  • Empty the refrigerator if it is moving, and defrost it the day before.
  • Set aside jewelry, documents, and anything you will carry yourself.
  • Photograph the empty home you are leaving, including walls and floors.

On move-in day

  • Walk the new home before unloading and note marks that are already there.
  • Confirm the elevator hold, the door, and the parking spot.
  • Clear a path from that door to each room.
  • Tell the crew which room gets the bed, the sofa, and the table.
  • Keep children and pets in one closed room, or with someone away from the carry.
  • Lay down floor protection if the building asked for it.
  • Walk the old home last: closets, garage, attic, patio, and outdoor storage.

After the truck leaves

  • Find the breaker panel, the water shutoff, and the smoke detectors.
  • Change the locks when you own the home, or ask the landlord before you change them.
  • Confirm trash, parking, and mailbox rules with the building office.
  • Unpack the open-first box before you start the rest.
