Davenport is a small city in northeast Polk County that grew from 2,888 residents in 2010 to 9,043 in 2020. That growth is mostly new construction: subdivisions, townhomes and resort communities close to I-4, US 27 and US 17-92. The city traces its name to Fort Davenport, a military post set up in 1838 during the Second Seminole War. Toro Movers is family-owned, we started in 2024, and our crews work in English and Spanish.
The challenge here is not narrow historic streets; it is how many communities have separate rules. ChampionsGate is a large golf-anchored master plan near I-4 Exit 58 that straddles Polk and Osceola counties. It includes primary-residence villages as well as short-term-rental resort areas, and the two have different traffic. Solterra Resort is a gated vacation-home community west of I-4 along US 27 and County Road 54. Providence is a separate gated golf community.
Because so many homes here are recent builds, floor plans tend to be open, but two-story houses with long staircases and long walks from the gate to the lot are common, so tell us about both. If your move is from a vacation rental or furnished townhome, tell us which items are included.
Be aware of the county line. Davenport is in Polk County, yet nearby ChampionsGate and Kissimmee are in Osceola County, and the Disney area lies to the northeast. A short trip can cross a county line, which affects who handles permits and where trucks can park.
I-4 is about 8 miles north of the town center, and it leads east to Walt Disney World and Orlando and west to Lakeland and Tampa. US 17-92 passes through the middle of town, heading north to Kissimmee and south to Haines City. US 27, a few miles west, joins I-4 northward. For a trip to Orlando, most crews take I-4; for Haines City or Lakeland, US 27 or US 17-92 is faster than the interstate during rush hour. Freight trains still run on the CSX line through Davenport, so a move near the tracks can be delayed by a crossing.
Summer storms are strong here. We plan loading for early in the day and use covers on furniture. Hurricane season runs June to November, and we move the date when a storm approaches.
