Apopka is an Orange County city about 16 miles northwest of downtown Orlando, near the shore of Lake Apopka and the Wekiva Springs area. It has long called itself the Indoor Foliage Capital of the World, and the University of Florida's IFAS research center there studies ornamental plants. The city has grown into a mix of older neighborhoods, golf communities and new subdivisions. Know which part of Apopka you are in

Some addresses are inside city limits, and some are unincorporated Orange County, and each is served by a different police and sheriff department. That is a useful hint for permits and parking; ask whether your street is in the city.

Neighborhood types differ widely:

• Errol Estates is an established golf and country-club area with single-family homes and villas, and several different association structures.
• Sweetwater Country Club is a gated golf community in northeast Apopka, near Wekiwa Springs State Park, with a pool, tennis, a fitness center and golf-cart access. A gated community means the crew has to be on a gate list.
• Rock Springs Ridge is a golf community in the north of the city, near Kelly Park Road, with larger lots and access to the Rock Springs area and SR 429.
• Wekiva Springs is the area near the state park. The park is spelled Wekiwa, which sometimes confuses directions; use street addresses.
• Older residential streets in the parts of the city that were built first.

Roads

The Wekiva Parkway, an extension of Toll 414 that is part of SR 429, created a junction at US 441 and Plymouth Sorrento Road. US 441 runs through the middle of the city, and SR 429 provides a limited-access route to the south and to I-4 near Disney. For moves to Orlando, we choose between US 441 and the toll roads based on time of day and your preference.

Because Apopka includes rural edges and large lots, you may have a long driveway, a gravel entrance or tree canopy that blocks a truck. Tell us ahead of time.
